Synthetic zeolites have a number of applications: as catalysts in organic
synthesis, for catalytic cracking of hydrocarbons, as molecular sieves, as
environmental remediation products, as micronutrient additives in agriculture,
in water treatment as ion exchangers, and as detergent builders to replace
environmentally harmful phosphates.
Australian BioRefining is undertaking a collaborative research project with
the Environmental Science department at Southern Cross University to develop
functional synthetic zeolites from sugar mill boiler ash.
This project has significant potential to generate several high value products
from what is currently a waste stream at some twenty major facilities within
Australia alone. ABR will retain ownership of all IP from this research project.
